Winn-Dixie Wrap Up

Sadly, we’ve come to the end of our first class novel; Because of Winn-Dixie. We all thoroughly enjoyed this very heart-warming and thought provoking book.

This year, I decided to forgo our usual ‘book report at home project’, and had each student produce a lapbook. For those of you unfamiliar with lapbooks, they are an inexpensive portfolio or collection of flaps, and folded display material, that provides interactive space for drawings, stories, graphs, graphics, timelines, diagrams, and written work, from any topic, unit study, book you choose, gathered, glued, and creatively displayed in a coloured standard sized cardboard folder. I’ve included photos so that you can see how lovely they all turned out!

We are also having a Because of Winn-Dixie Party on the half-day of November 27 (American Thanksgiving). Our party will be similar to the party that we read about in our book, and we will also serve similar foods. Each child signed up to bring in a dish, so please be sure to ask them what they volunteered for. I also sent home recipes for the egg salad sandwiches, Littmus Lozenges and Dump Punch, that were mentioned in the book. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to write, call or pop by. And last by not least, you are most certainly invited to pop in as we watch the movie and dine on our treats.

Thanks so much, for all that you do! I am thankful! đŸ™‚
