Descriptive writing describes a person, place, thing or event. Descriptive writing gives a clear and vivid picture to the reader through interesting nouns, adjectives, and verbs. It focuses on the topic and uses the senses to appeal to the reader. Remember, we focused on this at the beginning of the year? Hopefully you all thought of our Show Not Tell lessons!

 

ACTIVITY 1:

–   Listen to my Loom lesson on the importance of adjectives for descriptive writing.

–   Remember, descriptive writing uses your senses to describe something that helps the reader create a picture in their mind while using vivid and clear words!

 

ACTIVITY 2:

–   Complete the attached student response template:

–   Descriptive writing describes a person, place, thing or event. It focuses on the topic and uses the senses to appeal to the reader.

–   Think of adjectives that you could use to describe something using each of your five senses. List at least 3 adjectives for each of the senses.

–        Thousandths: Are numbers have three digits after the decimal point. It also refers to the third digit after the decimal point.

–        Examples: 0.12 = 12/100        0.564 = 564/100          0.871 = 871/100

SCIENCE

To introduce students to our Sun, the center of our Solar System. SOLAR SYSTEM

–        The Sun is a star found at the center of the Solar System.

–        The Sun’s surface temperature is around 5500 degrees Celsius (9941 degrees Fahrenheit)

–        Light from the Sun reaches Earth in around 8 minutes.

–        Due to the Sun’s huge influence on Earth, many early cultures saw the Sun as a deity or god. For example, Ancient Egyptians had a sun god called Ra while in Aztec mythology there is a sun god named Tonatiuh.
