Honoring and Serving God

To be a living sacrifice, Christians must choose to honour God in thoughts, words, and actions. For example: Believers must careful select what they choose to look at, such as movies, magazines, and television shows. and what they listen to. Also, doing chores with a positive attitude, helping people in need, and speaking kindly to others are instances of being a living sacrifice.

a. What did Annemarie learn about Peter from Uncle Henrik?

b. What were the two clues that should have helped Annemarie know about Peter’s job?

c. Why couldn’t Annemarie see the Rosens when she got to the boat?

d. What was the point of delivering the packet?

Descriptive writing describes a person, place, thing or event. Descriptive writing gives a clear and vivid picture to the reader through interesting nouns, adjectives, and verbs. It focuses on the topic and uses the senses to appeal to the reader. Remember, we focused on this at the beginning of the year? Hopefully you all thought of our Show Not Tell lessons!

 

ACTIVITY 1:

–   Listen to “Hello Ocean” read aloud.

–   As you listen, point out how the author uses senses to describe the ocean:

–   What did you see in your mind as you were listening and reading along?

–   What words do you remember that stick out in your minds?

–   Remember, descriptive writing uses your senses to describe something that helps the reader create a picture in their mind while using vivid and clear words!

 

ACTIVITY 2:

–   After you’ve listened and read “Hello Ocean”, complete the student response template attached:

–   Think of adjectives that you could use to describe something using each of your five senses. List at least 3 adjectives for each of the senses.

–        The Universe is everything we can touch, feel, sense, measure or detect. It includes living things, planets, stars, galaxies, dust clouds, light, and even time.

–        We live in one of the arms of a large spiral galaxy called the Milky Way.

–        The Sun and its planets (including Earth) lie in this quiet part of the galaxy, about halfway out from the centre.
