  • Peter failed when he denied Jesus. He had a guilty conscious over his sin. But there was hope for Peter’s relationship with Jesus! After Jesus died on the cross and rose again, He met with His disciples, including Peter. Jesus knew that Peter was truly sorry for his sin.

  • How can Christians avoid sinning? Christian can avoid sinning by submitting to the guidance of the Holy Spirit in order to avoid temptation and make good decisions.
  • What is meant by the terms old nature and new nature? The old nature is the way people naturally behave before coming to faith in Jesus Christ. The new nature is he pattern of living that results form having a relationship with Jesus and following His example.
  • Name some things that belong to the old nature. Possible answers: lying, or falsehood, stealing, foul language, anger, bitterness.
  • Name some things that belong to the new nature. Possible answers: kindness, tenderheartedness, compassion, forgiveness.

  • Identify the difference between a simile and a metaphor
  • Create their own similes and metaphors and incorporate into own writing
Descriptive Writing – Simile or Metaphor?

ACTIVITY 1:

  • Complete the student response template:
  • Great authors make their descriptive writing more interesting by using similes and metaphors to help the reader picture the same image and experience the same feelings that the writer has.
  • A simile uses the words ’like or’ as to compare two different objects or ideas.
  • Examples: Driving in the blizzard was like covering my face with a bleached white sheet, I couldnt see anything.
  • The books were as heavy asa thousand bricks.
  • A metaphor is a way of comparing two objects or ideas by stating that one is the other.
  • Example: Justin ate three hot dogs for breakfast. He is a pig.

  • Directions: Decide if each sentence is a simile or a metaphor.

ACTIVITY 3:

  • Directions: Use a simile or a metaphor to describe each scenario.
  • Example: Stuck inside on a rainy day.

  • Directions: Pick one of the situations and write a short paragraph (3-5sentences) using your five senses, descriptive language, and similes and metaphors to describe the experience.
