Edit your Descriptive Narrative
ACTIVITY 1:
- Read over your draft from beginning to ending
ACTIVITY 2:
- You have your finalized draft
- Watch: https://youtu.be/1T6PmQQlKss
- Now, focus on:
- 1. VOICE – You will take your draft and add to it, thinking about how you will make the writing sound like you. Voice is how you make that reader- writer connection (so important to do right from the very beginning). It is what makes your writing come alive! The purpose of a descriptive narrative is to entertain…so be sure your writing is entertaining!
- 2. DIALOGUE – Add a bit of dialogue to make your writing more interesting and give it some texture.
- 3. SHOW NOT TELL – You will include vivid, sensory details (how things look, smell, sound, feel, and taste). Use this to bring your setting and story to life! For an example of this, simply look back over some of our readings of The One and Only Ivan.
- 4. SIMILES AND METAPHORS – Add these to make your writing even more interesting.
- 5. VOCABULARY – Use a thesaurus to help boost your vocabulary
- 6. PROOFREAD – Pay attention to grammar mechanics (spelling, capital letters, paragraphs, etc)

|
To introduce students to the motions of Earth, the moon, and the Sun. |
MOTIONS OF EARTH, THE MOON, AND THE SUN.
- We’re always on the move! Even when you’re standing still, you’re moving! You are moving because the Earth and everything in our solar system is constantly moving.
- At the center of it all is the Sun. It takes the Sun 25 days to spin, or rotate, completely around.
- The Earth, which is the third planet from the Sun, takes 24 hours to rotate. This is what causes day and night. As the Earth rotates, it also moves, or revolves, around the Sun.
- The Earth’s path around the Sun is called its orbit. It takes the Earth one year, or 365 1/4 days, to completely orbit the Sun.
- As the Earth orbits the Sun, the Moon orbits the Earth. The Moon’s orbit lasts 27 1/2 days, but because the Earth keeps moving, it takes the Moon two extra days, 29 1/2, to come back to the same place in our sky.
