Home Learning: Monday, April 20

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to Quarter 4.

Mr. B and I sent out an email on Saturday to inform you of our next steps in how we are going to approach remote learning in the coming weeks. Please make sure you have read that before starting today’s work.

With us rolling out live teaching sessions, it is going to be important that your child has a daily routine and a proper work place for these sessions. They must be prepared before the group sessions start. Once we’ve trialed everything this week, we will be able to see what works and what doesn’t work. We will address video etiquette and expectations again today – We will not accept any inappropriate behaviour during live sessions.

Daily lessons will be posted on the blog. All live support will be through Microsoft Teams (Chat and video). Unfortunately MT only allows use to see 4 screens at a time, so we will be using Zoom to do our group sessions.Students don’t need to create Zoom accounts and can join the session through the link provided in the general chat area of MT (legally, w cannot create Zoom accounts for your children). We will record the live sessions and upload the videos in the appropriate file area in MT.

If you have any issues or problems, please let us know. We’re learning through this process as well.

Grade 4 and 6: Quarter 4 – Remote Learning

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the new and final quarter of remote learning and teaching for 2019-2020. I bet you never imagined hearing that welcome.

Firstly, Mr. B and I would like to thank you for the many encouraging emails and messages that we’ve received over the past few weeks. I know that this isn’t how any of us imagined ending the year, but here we are, making the ultimate best of the hands that we’ve been dealt. This year has been filled with so many firsts for us (earthquake, dump fires, a pandemic, to name a few), but with these firsts, we’ve also been given the opportunity to strengthen our relationships with each other. For that, we’d like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We are also very happy that 85% our students have completed all their tasks for us. We know that it’s not easy to make an overnight transition from the classroom to home learning. But, please know that we have worked tirelessly to continually better ourselves to serve you and thus improve on our remote teaching.

With that being said, we now have all our students on Microsoft Teams (MT), and for our final quarter, we will be able to offer a few new initiatives; primarily, a soft roll-out of live, online teaching and group meetings. Given that Mr. B and I teach both Grade 4 and 6 (35 students in total), our aim is to divide each grade into 2 groups and meet at least 3 times per week per grade to begin with, as well as offer a continuation of one-on-one instructional meetings or live chat (through MT). As mentioned above, this is a soft roll-out, and therefore is not set in stone and may need to be tweaked as we move forward. Ideally, we would love to be able to offer live teaching more frequently, but we are also cognizant of your busy work schedules and are striving for a balance that works for both you and your child. We will also be scheduling one-on-one catch up calls via MT to check up on all students. This is an opportunity for us to touch base and reconnect individually. We certainly miss being able to interact daily with our kids.

Mr. B and I will continue to update the blog with daily lesson plans that will include the times for remote live teaching and assignments/activities. We will also continue to include activities assigned in Seesaw, as well as check-ups and assessments set in Quizziz and GoFormative. Unfortunately, MT only allows us to see 4 video feeds at a time in a group chat. Therefore, we will be posting a blog post on the platform that we’ll use for our live teaching and how to join these live sessions.

As always, Mr. B and I are available Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 3:00pm and if you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email us. Enjoy the remainder of your Easter break weekend. We’re looking forward to finishing off this year strong, albeit it, remotely.
Continually praying for you all,

Sincerely,
Mr.B and Ms. Suckoo

Home Learning: Wednesday, April 8

Dear Parents and Students

Today is the last day of the term – Thank you for the hard work over the last few weeks. We are proud of all that you’ve done!

Please ensure that you complete or submit all your tasks today. If you’re having issues completing all your work or will not make the deadline – please reach out to Mr. B or me. We will email each family with a list of incomplete tasks on Thursday.

Remember to rest and do things that you enjoy during this short down time. It is important that you let your mind and body rest. Keep in mind the significance of Easter and the sacrifice Jesus made for each one of us. Celebrate the life he has given us – especially during this time.

Demonstrate balance and coordination

This week’s lesson is an optional game for you to do with your family.

However, if you did not submit the two items from last week, you need to turn them in a.s.a.p. on either Seesaw or via email to Coach Kring (rkring@fbcs.edu.ky )

1. Post your completed March Activity Log Calendar.

2. Post the video recording of your routine. (see assignment in Seesaw for details)

Activity: Bite the Bag

This is a “Minute to Win It” game.  Your goal will be to pick up a paper bag (or cardboard box) with your mouth.  You can only let your feet touch the floor – no hands, knees, etc.

Details: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8pJD_UCBX8

CHANGE FROM VIDEO – I suggest instead of having multiple bags, simply have one bag/box and cut off the level that you were able to bite, and then try again.  You will slowly go lower and lower down the bag/box.

Feel free to post a photo or video on Seesaw with the lowest level you reached (Please include the measurement, such as “My lowest level was 7 inches!”) Then I will announce who reached the lowest level in the class on April 17.  Have fun competing!

*If you want a challenge, try doing the competition it on one foot!

Paper bag or cardboard box (i.e. cereal box)  *both should be able to be destroyed
